Dr. Stancil J.L. Hutchinson provides psychological and neuropsychological evaluations as well as treatment. Evaluations can explore a wide range of issues in a variety of settings, as Dr. Hutchinson assesses children as young as six years to elders. Dr. Hutchinson has about a decade of experience in private practice in which he has authored thousands of psychological and neuropsychological reports.
Dr. Hutchinson regularly provides cutting-edge evaluations that can be as in depth as his clients’ require. Written reports include, amongst other things, clinical interview, mental status examination, psychological and/or neuropsychological test findings, review of available records, and a nuanced discussion where Dr. Hutchinson shows his work on the way to providing clients with accurate diagnoses.
Customized recommendations and/or accommodations are included but not before Dr. Hutchinson feels confident that he understands his clients on a meaningful level, as he believes that far too many mental health practitioners prematurely provide treatment. That is, one of the tenets of Dr. Hutchinson’s private practice is that many clients do not succeed because they were never properly evaluated in the first place.
For clients that receive an evaluation, they may benefit from treatment at Dr. Hutchinson’s East Sacramento office across from McKinley Park. Dr. Hutchinson and his team of doctoral candidate trainees, under his direct supervision, provide various treatments, some rather innovative, such as virtual reality therapy for specific fears, such as of heights, flying in airplanes, elevators, driving, tight spaces, darkness, needles, germs, animals, public speaking, test-taking, bullying, and feeling unable to escape.
Virtual reality treatment can also be useful in managing other anxiety-related issues such as social fears and excessive worrying, even problems you might not expect, such as alcoholism, eating disorders, and OCD. Virtual reality treatment can also compliment many research-based therapies, such as mindfulness, EMDR, and other stress-reduction techniques.
Dr. Hutchinson believes that virtual reality treatment is a supplementary therapy that compliments individual psychotherapy. Feeling better often comes by way of a course that plots a series of successes and Dr. Hutchinson’s virtual reality treatment is intended to not only help clients face their fears, but contribute to a positive feedback loop that takes them to higher levels of life satisfaction. Dr. Hutchinson is always happy to work with your treatment team to the extent that you authorize.
Dr. Hutchinson and his team also provide more conventional individual psychotherapy and, for those out of town, tele-therapy services are offered. Whatever form of treatment is indicated, clients must receive an evaluation of some sort by Dr. Hutchinson should they wish to receive therapeutic services. Clients appreciate that Dr. Hutchinson’s efforts to understand them the best he can leads to desirable treatment plans.
