Shavontae McCants, is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #115676) and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC #7083). She is registered with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). She received her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counseling from Brandman University 2019. She completed a bachelor’s degree in Social Science from Brandman University in 2015 with concentrations in Psychology, Sociology and Criminal Justice. Shavontae was medically retired from the United States Air Force after serving her country for three years and is excited to give back to her community.
As someone who has gone through a life-changing event, she is passionate about supporting others to overcome challenges related to major life-transitions, coping with a chronic illness, depression, anxiety, stress, anger, grief, childhood trauma and building healthy relationships. She has experience working with children, adolescents/teens, young adults and the LGBTQ population.
She believes that therapy gives us an opportunity to be our authentic self. It creates a safe space to explore our inner truths and speak of them freely in a non-judgmental environment. As humans we value safety and having connections with others and with every connection is an opportunity for personal growth.
Shavontae uses a blend of theoretical approaches that includes Psychodynamic, Attachment Based, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person- Centered Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. Shavontae has an eclectic style of counseling. She uses an open, integrative approach to psychotherapy that adapts to the unique needs of each specific client, and will work with you to come up with a plan that is best for you, concentrating on what you want to achieve out of therapy.
