Play therapy is primarily used with children, and is a great way to help kids learn skills and adaptive behaviors, as well as process difficult emotions and/or trauma. Often times children, especially very young children, are much better at expressing themselves through play than through verbalizing. In nondirective play therapy, children are given the needed tools and space to work through their emotions and difficult situations on their own, and in directive play therapy, therapists offer more input to direct the child towards those results more quickly. Both tools are often used by therapists
