Therapists Who Practice Person Centered Therapy

Person centered therapy, or Rogerian therapy, was developed by Car Rogers in the 1940’s. Rogers had a very new view at the time that clients should be viewed empathetically and not as a series of symptoms, but rather as whole people who are very much capable of growth and improvement. This was a big shift away from the therapist being seen as an expert and the client as just a patient who was flawed and needed fixing by the therapist. Rogers said that people were already reaching for self-actualization, and just needed help tapping into their own resources. Key to this approach is empathizing with the client.
