Depression can look different in different people, but generally speaking, the defining symptoms of depression are feelings of sadness, emptiness, or low mood that lasts for two weeks or more. Symptoms can also include lack of energy, lack of interest in activities one once enjoyed, physical symptoms of pain, exhaustion, restlessness, sleep deprivation, and trouble with concentration and possibly suicidal thoughts. Certainly not all of these symptoms may be felt by someone struggling with depression, but any one of them is certainly cause for concern.
