Narrative therapy looks at the stories we tell ourselves about our lives, experiences, and who we are as people. Looking at all of this in the form of a narrative can help create distance and get new perspective, and can also help the client see themselves in a more positive, and/or honest, light. In this style, the therapist is not seen as the expert, as the client knows far more of the story, but as someone who can help the client (or author of the story) begin to rewrite and revise the story as needed.
