Mindfulness based cognitive therapy, or MBCT, is centered on observing and recognizing patterns of behavior, mood, and activity, and working to change them as needed to cope with problems like anxiety, depression, and others. This approach uses the principles of cognitive therapy, and applies mindfulness techniques of meditation, bodily awareness, and recognizing the modes and patters we go through. MBCT is a fairly new approach (the first clinical trial was published in 2000), and ties together the multiple tools of mindfulness and cognitive therapy.
