Therapists Who Practice Humanistic Therapy

Humanistic therapy is based on ideas that originated in the 1950’s alongside developments in humanism. Humanism is a view that people naturally strive towards self-actualization, and should be equal partners with therapists when working towards goals/mental health, rather than the therapist being seen as an authority figure. This approach encourages looking holistically at the client and how they are feeling in the present. It puts less focus on the past and how previous experiences have developed world views than other approaches. Instead it focuses on how the client is processing and feeling in the present.
