Gestalt therapy focuses on the present and how we are currently experiencing and feeling things. It was created by Fritz Perls, and stresses that a person can best understand oneself and work through problems by looking at the whole self (mind, body, and spirit) in the present moment. This means focusing on how you are feeling now, not how you felt in the past. Discussing past experiences definitely can still occur, but the goal of doing so is to see how they affect you now, not how they shaped your past.
