Eclectic therapists pull from a range of approaches and address different clients using varying approaches (or aspects of approaches in conjunction with another) as they see best fits the individual client. For example, one therapist may pull from both the attachment focused therapy approach and acceptance and commitment therapy approach in a case where a client has a negative self-narrative that stems from a toxic relationship with an important family member. Reaching both into discussion of why this relative matters so much to the client, and how that has shaped the client’s world views and opinions of him or herself could be helpful. Many therapists pull from multiple approaches as needed by the client.
